Fibromyalgia:
Fibromyalgia whose symptoms often mimic other illnesses and diseases. Are:
Depression, Numbness or tingling sensations in the hands and feet , Difficulty concentrating, Mood changes, Chest pain, Dry eyes, skin and mouth, Painful menstrual periods, Dizziness. Joint pain , Anxiety, Difficulty sleeping, Irritable Bowel, and Syndrome (IBS)
Who Is At Risk?
Women suffer from fibromyalgia much more so than men. No one is quite sure why, but besides gender, there are some other factors that put you more at risk for fibromyalgia.
Family history. If you have a relative with fibromyalgia, you may be more likely to develop the illness.
People who have rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, osteoporosis, tendonitis and other signs of chronic inflammation may be more likely to have fibromyalgia.
Disturbed sleep patterns. Doctors do not know if a lack of restorative sleep causes fibromyalgia or if it’s one of the results of the illness, but it’s potentially a risk factor for developing the condition. Use of antibiotics – Antibiotics have their place in the world but most people who experience symptoms of fibromyalgia have a history of antibiotic use. These weaken the immune system and allow pathogens like viruses and yeast to develop in your body.
Weak immune systems – This is where Body Ecology can really help prevent conditions like fibromyalgia from developing because we focus on building the immune system with our foods and principles. Babies need to begin building their immunity from birth so that fibromyalgia never develops. But it is never too late…no matter what age you are…to create a stronger immune system.
Other risk factors associated with fibromyalgia include:
Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Osteoporosis, Endometriosis, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Crohn’s disease. Multiple Sclerosis, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, GERD, Anemia, Seasonal Affective Disorder, Yeast infections, Hypoglycemia.
In the face of such serious symptoms and co-occurring illnesses the key to healing chronic illnesses like fibromyalgia is to understand the causes.
What Causes Fibromyalgia?
Perhaps one of the most interesting and debated facets of this puzzling disease is what actually causes it.
Researchers don’t always agree, but some of their theories are particularly interesting. Scientists and doctors have implicated sleep disturbances, trauma or injury, changes in muscle metabolism and even abnormalities of your sympathetic nervous system in the development of fibromyalgia.
The most fascinating theory links fibromyalgia to infection.
More than a few studies have linked fibromyalgia prevalence to various kinds of infections, from mycoplasma blood infection to the Hepatitis C virus.
Doctors and researchers may not be sure of exactly what causes fibromyalgia, but studies point to viral, bacterial and fungal infections and chronic inflammation as key components to this syndrome.
It would make sense, then, to prevent and treat viral, bacterial and yeast infections and to follow a protocol that decreases inflammation in order to ease the painful symptoms of fibromyalgia and the conditions that occur alongside it.
Natural Solutions for Fibromyalgia
Healing is about bringing your body back into balance and there is no greater teacher for balance than Nature. Sometimes Nature is calm and peaceful and other times, it is stormy and blustery. If there is anything to learn from Nature, it is NOT that things are always perfect. It’s that we must make adjustments to bring about balance.
In any experience of chronic pain, like fibromyalgia, we can take our cue from Nature: including natural healing foods, nutrition, and lifestyle choices that focus on bringing our bodies back into balance.
